The king of Twitch poker – Jason Somerville also known by his screenname ‘jcarverpoker’ – has been off the radar for a while. With over 200,000 followers on his Twitch channel and known for an impressive commitment to streaming, there are a lot of fans out there that will be missing Jason’s face. The only people that might actually be happy about his disappearance from Twitch are fellow poker streamers that can now battle for the #1 spot.
Since his last stream back on May 21st for the SCOOP Main Event, jcarver has not shown up on the Twitch streets. What’s he been up to since then?
It’s largely a mystery. There were murmurs going around that we’d see Jason make an appearance for the WSOP, but he laid low (though there were dozens of RunItUp shirts on show, displaying solidarity amongst his followers). He’s updated his Twitter page every now and then, and this week he wrote a very intriguing tweet:
It’s clear that Jason knows how to hold his audience. In the comments to this tweet, he explains that he hopes to stream again soon and has put together another RunItUp Reno event for October 16th-23rd. But what are the possible ‘Big Things’ that Jason has been working on while he’s been largely out of the public eye?
Legalising Online Poker
Since online poker has largely been outlawed across the U.S., Jason has been a prominent figure speaking out against the absurdity of this and a key voice in reasoning why online poker should be brought back. Back in 2016, he appeared on CNBC to discuss the issue and has actively followed its development over the last year. If you are a follower of his on Twitter, he regularly shares out news on the legal progression of online poker. As a sponsored pro for PokerStars with a huge online following, it is certainly possible that Jason has been meeting with officials in a hope to bring online poker back to the many supporters it has across the country.
Plans with PokerStars
Given that Jason is signed with PokerStars, they’ll definitely want him to kick off the streaming once more. With a following as large as his regularly watching him play on the site, his Twitch presence definitely carries some marketing power that PokerStars would appreciate. Seeing as they’ve recently signed Ben ‘Spraggy’ Spragg and Fintan ‘easywithaces’ Hand to the team – both players that built up large followings through Twitch and now co-operatively stream on the PokerStars channel – it is possible that they want Jason back to lead the streaming march.
Ultimately, this is all conjecture. For the reveal on what jcarver’s planned ‘Big Things’ are, we’re going to have to hold our breath in anticipation. Keep tabs on his Twitter page over the coming weeks, as he’s signaled that there’s an announcement in the pipeline. Until then, keep running it up and do him proud.
